"Avtrykk" ("Imprints")

About the series "Avtrykk" I am fascinated by old buildings and the stories they carry. My fantasy often plays with events and daily life of lost times. Particularly I think of the joy and meaning the creation of stories about ghosts, wood nymphs, gnomes, trolls, old fogeys and other mysterious beings gave the people. I make the imprints by placing sheets of paper to the woodwork and I then hatch the sheets with a graphite lead. Then I study the papers – with imprints from annual rings, cracks and hammer strokes – persons, creatures and shapes appears, and I start to bring these new patterns forward with a lead-pencil. I work until I sense that the characters of the picture communicate with each other, and until I sense the dream, the story or the adventure. I never know what mysterious characters, beings or stories the paper hides.
